II.
THE
COORDINATOR

Colegiul
Economic "Iulian Pop" is a technical high school with over 450
students whose curriculum focuses on the field of economics
(particularly accounting, sales, and tourism) while also fostering a
broad general education. It is located in the heart of Cluj-Napoca, the
largest city and unofficial capital of Transylvania, near prestigious
universities offering both humanities and science studies (Babes-Bolyai
University, the largest and most renowned in Romania) as well as
technical and medical programs (including USAMV, specializing in
agricultural sciences and veterinary medicine, which has two
international sections: French-speaking and English-speaking). Most
students at "Colegiul Pop" are aiming for higher education in economics
and can find jobs in the city's large service sector (banks, insurance
companies, etc.). However, since their specialization during secondary
education does not guarantee access to higher education in Romania,
some choose a different path, taking advantage of the extremely
varied range of courses offered locally.
The student body is diverse, predominantly urban but sometimes
originating from the rural periphery of the region or even from
Moldova, and the integration of these populations, as well as the
culture of "living together," are central to the school's educational
project. The school participates in numerous competitions and has
excellent results. Its staff demonstrates a high level of cohesion and
works with their students in a calm atmosphere.
Colegiul Economic "Iulian Pop"'s buildings are located in the heart of
a historic city boasting prestigious universities in both the
humanities (Babes-Bolyai University, one of the oldest and most
renowned in the country) and the sciences, technology, and medicine,
the school has recently added a postgraduate program.
The teaching staff is very close-knit, and relations with families are
excellent. The teaching team has recently acquired significant
expertise in European projects, having successfully led four Erasmus+
strategic partnerships (the fifht one, implemented with the historical
French partner - in touch from 2015 - is to be achieved in next summer).
Over the past decade, teachers at Colegiul Economic "Iulian Pop" have
organized numerous cultural outings and international exchanges,
including trips to Germany and the Czech Republic. A group of teachers
was formed to develop European initiatives with colleagues from France,
Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Romania, and Türkiye. European
citizenship and digital skills, mythologies, sustainable development,
and animal welfare are among the main topics the local Erasmus+ team
has focused on, along with improving students' language skills (English
and French).
European projects held by the Hich School are high quality ones (from
2015, 50% were judged as "Good Practice" samples).
